INSTITUTE FOR MARITIME MEDICINE

Our Vision :  A healthy Maritime Military Community by means of Specialist Maritime Health Services

About IMM

The Institute for Maritime Medicine (the former navy Medical Centre) has a unique origin and history. This specialist unit of the South African Military Health Service (SAMHS), which has its headquarters at the Simon’s Town Naval Base has, from its inception in 1957, been inseparable in function from the South African Navy. Even after the establishment of the South African Military Health Service as an autonomous fourth arm of the Defence Force on July 1979, the members and dependants of the two organisations have worked and lived side by side for a common cause; the protection and effective functioning of the largest naval base in Africa.
